Hunting Preserve
Dont let your sovereign buddies in their comfortable boots keep our upland
gamebird Shangri-la all to themselves. Only one party at a time reap the pheasant, chukar,
hun and quail hunting through rolling fields, creekbeds and hillsides. Bring your own dog
or let Jerry or Josh guide you with their griffons and shorthairs. If you feel like
loosening up your swing, our world class sporting clays course is a good place to start.
Unwind in front of the fireplace in the privacy of the 3,800 sq. ft. lodge and maybe shoot
some pool. Prepare your own meals in the fully equipped kitchen, throw some birds on the
outdoor grill or just sit back and let our chef do the work. You dont have to go all
the way to the Dakotas for fun times anymore. Located in Eastern Oregon, Great
Expectations Hunting Preserve is on the way to nowhere and could be just the ticket for
you. |
If you like to fish, catch trout in one of our ponds or try some of the
best world class small mouth bass fishing just twenty minutes away on the John Day River,
the largest undammed river system in the west.
The John Day Fossil Beds National Monument is just a 45 minute drive into another time
and world where you'll see sabertooth tigers and dinosaurs preserved in clay formations
millions of years old.
Great Expectations Hunting Preserve is located in Eastern Oregon--on the sunny side of the
state. The preserve has 556 acres with 170 acres of cropland planted with as many as 12
different crops devoted exclusively to bird feed and habitat. We have an arid climate with
most of our precipitation coming in the winter months of November through January. Summer
temperatures range from 45 degrees at night to between 85 degrees and 95 during mid-day.
Spring and fall temperatures run from the teens to the mid 70s. Winter from below zero to
the mid 40's. Elevation is 2,320' on the valley floor to 2,880' on the northern boundary
of the preserve.
After each exciting day in the field, you'll return to the comfort and seclusion of our
fully furnished four bedroom lodge. It's well equipped kitchen allows you the flexibility
of preparing your own meals or enjoying those meals prepared by our experienced chef..
Winter guests can take full advantage of our heated garage and satellite TV. Six covered
kennels shelter your dog in any weather.
The vast hiking areas offer excellent deer, elk and bird watching on the preserve as well
as on the Umitilla National Forest, which borders us for 1 3/4 miles.
Quite simply, the perfect destination for hunters who want to "get away from it
all," Great Expectations emphasizes personal attention and specializes in
"fly-ins," small groups and corporate entertaining. Airport transportation from
Monument and Redmond, Oregon available.
